Internal Links of Interest
I don't know why, but this past week I have been reminiscing those days early in my military career, particularly Berlin. Why Berlin, you ask? I suppose because it was my first permanent duty assignment and those were days of intrigue and espionage in that international city. More likely though it is simply because I turn 65 on April 10th and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic.
Anyway, I ran across a website showing Checkpoint Charlie, Oct 1961. The photo was taken during a sixteen hour standoff between our (CO F 40th Armor) tanks and the Russians. Things were pretty tense for weeks and months after that. Today, the checkpoint has become a playground for tourists. See Checkpoint Charlie sometime after June, 2004
